Bio for Kent Searight

I built my first FileMaker Pro database solution in 1997 while working as a project estimator for a commercial printer. Making a career out of database development was the furthest thing from my mind at the time I started it - I simply wanted a more reliable and efficient way of working with the information I used everyday, and a coworker suggested that I try FileMaker Pro. By the time I completed my first database I'd come to realize several things.

• A well written database program can give an organization a huge return on its investment.

• People who aren’t "computer people" will use it with ease if it has a good interface design.

• Building databases to achieve the first two was something I enjoyed immensely and I had a natural talent for.

Twelve years, several FileMaker certifications and many databases later, I still thoroughly enjoy building databases that make people more productive while at the same time making their jobs easier.

So, what else is there to know about me besides the FileMaker consultant side of me?

My interests include backcountry skiing, hiking, backpacking, foreign travel, languages, going to concerts, shows and museums, history, science, art, cycling, tennis, snorkeling, neolithic technologies, bird watching and reading.

I believe it's important to make a positive difference in people's lives and I'm ever mindful of how good I have it compared to many others I've crossed paths with.
